How to Write a Thesis
Step 1:
Pick a topic
Pick a thematic topic from the text.
Ex. Fate
Step 2:
Create a theme
A theme will be a complete sentence.
It will answer the question: "What is the writer saying about this?"
Ex. An individual must follow the path that fate intended.
Step 3:
Find aspects that show theme
Ask yourself: "What literary devices does the writer use to reveal the theme?"
Pick 3 aspects of the work (literary devices/characters/events) that show the theme
Ex. Paradox, setting, irony
Step 4:
Combine your theme sentence with the three aspects of the work to create a thesis.
Ex. Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood
