20 Time Advice For Next Year
For our 20 Time Project we created a blog about paranormal activity in Virginia. We researched the history behind local legends, myths, and paranormal sightings in Virginia, visited haunted locations, and actually got to participate in paranormal investigations. In addition to this we posted all of our findings and experiences on our blog in either the form of word posts or video logs.
throughout the course of this project we learned skills like how to create a blog and make it aesthetically pleasing, how to make designs and logos, how to communicate with businesses, and how to program and request to make our blog visible on search engines such as google.
Along with these skills we learned how to conduct thorough research, how to film and edit videos, and how to use tools commonly used in paranormal investigations. Lastly, we learned things like schedule making, time management, and how to work with others.
We took away a lot from this project, and here are a few tips to help you get the most out of your 20 Time Project.
One- Choose something you like. You will be spending a good deal of time on this project, make sure to choose something you are genuinely interested in. If you don’t enjoy the project you chose, then you will have no motivation to work on it.
Two- Don’t pick a project just because you want to be in a group with your friends. Like we said- you are going to be spending a lot of time on this project. And although it would be fun to spend that time with your friends, you will enjoy it 100x more if you chose something you will really enjoy. If that means working by yourself, working with people you usually wouldn’t hang out with, or working with your friends- so be it. Chose your project based on your own interests.
Three- Make a plan. This advice sounds pretty obvious, but it’s easy to get excited about your idea and just want to jump right in. But before you do that, sit down and decide what you want to accomplish and when you want to accomplish it by. If you’re working with people in different classes, chances are you won’t be able to work on your project in class together so compare schedules and decide when you can meet outside of school to work on it. Having a well thought out plan will make the whole project run so much smoother than if you leave out this step.
Four- Be realistic when you set your goals. Remember- this is your senior year. You may not realize it now, but it is going to get really hectic really soon. Between college and scholarship applications, visiting schools, schoolwork, jobs, and extracurriculars, free time is going to be rare. We didn’t realize how busy senior year would get and we made very unrealistic goals that we weren’t able to meet. Avoid this by understanding your schedule and making realistic goals that you can meet without stressing yourself out too much.
This brings us to our last piece of advice- have fun. This is an opportunity for you to do whatever you want. You don’t have to study for it, there are no tests, it’s just free time that you can work on whatever interests you. It’s supposed to be fun, so enjoy it!
